Different Designs of WiFi Security Cameras

A wifi camera is wirelessly connected to a network or internet system. Selecting a wifi security camera is an easy task, but does not seem so. Depending on the purpose of the camera, you can choose a pan/ tilt/zoom camera to monitor moving objects around the secured premises. PTZ and fixed cameras were the only available cameras in the olden days, but things have taken a turn and got a lot more complicated. There is a difference between the type of security camera and the type of housing and extra features you can do with it.



There are three types of security cameras:

The Fixed Cameras - A fixed network camera is a camera that is set to view direction once it is mounted. The camera may come with a fixed, motorized or varifocal zoom lens. At some cameras, the lens may be exchangeable. The cameras are positioned to capture an image and be optimized for application with different housing and features. With its few moving parts, fixed cameras are more reliable than PTZ cameras, and they always point in the predetermined direction.

Pan / Tilt / Zoom Cameras - A pan-tilt-zoom camera is a camera capable of zoom control and remote directional. The PTZ controls are used with video cameras in sporting events, television studios, and other spaces. The cameras are also known as robotic cameras.

The cameras are specially designed fixed camera wrapped in a cocoon of gears which allow an operator to move it remotely. Higher-end cameras may have greater zoom range. A higher zoom range helps when covering a larger area. PTZ cameras can be automatically set to patrol an area, but many of the times are the cameras controlled manually.

The 360 Degree Camera - Also known as an omnidirectional camera. The 360-degree video is video recordings where a view in each direction is recorded at the same time. The 360-degree camera is several high resolution fixed camera in a single housing. The images are stitched together, and you can zoom in after the direction you want.  

The camera records all images. This can make it face in all directions and can be used as a great forensic tool. The major challenge facing the camera acceptance is that they are often oversold as a universal solution. Few rooms allow for an unobstructed field of view in all directions, so you are not utilizing the full field of view.

After choosing the type of camera, the next thing you have to consider is the type of housing and design of the camera. Here are some of the areas where you have to place the cameras:

Outdoor - Outdoor cameras should be more weather resistant and include heaters and blowers to allow for different environmental variances.

Dome - Dome housings are designed to conceal the orientation of the camera. In most applications, this is the high priority. These cameras are secure as most people can not tell which direction they are pointing. For instance, a fixed camera covering a door at the end of a hallway is assumed to be covering an entire hall.

Bullet - A bullet camera is a video camera named from its shape and size. The cameras are limited to certain fixed focal length lens. The cameras are also known as lipstick cameras.
